L / LEAD™ — Ownership

Turn an SOP into real ownership

Turn one existing process from documentation into an ownership system with a clear outcome, authority, handoffs, triggers and escalation.

Who this is for

Works best when

  • You have SOPs but people still need chasing or reminders to follow them
  • Everyone supposedly knows what to do but execution is inconsistent
  • The process exists yet you or a manager still have to check it to keep it moving
  • Ownership is fuzzy even though the tasks are documented

LEAD™ works when the process is sound and the person is capable but the ownership design is the problem. If the issue is that multiple handoffs keep failing across different workflows, EXAMINE™ may be a better starting point.

What you walk away with

One process redesigned for real ownership

01

A clear outcome and one accountable owner

02

The decision authority that owner needs to actually deliver

03

Explicit handoffs and dependencies with other roles

04

Triggers for when work starts, changes or escalates

05

Exception rules and escalation criteria

06

The exact reasons the process was failing and the 3 changes required

07

A handoff session walking your team through the new ownership design

What we need from you

What to bring

Before we start, we ask you to share:

  • The SOP or process you want to work on
  • The people and roles involved
  • Who is supposed to own it
  • Recent examples where it broke down
  • What you or a manager currently have to chase or approve to keep it moving
How it works

Diagnose. Design. Build. Hand off.

Timeframe: 2 to 3 business days from the point we have what we need from you.

  1. 01SOP review and structured intake
  2. 0260-minute working session using real breakdown examples to diagnose what is actually failing
  3. 03Internal ownership overlay draft
  4. 0430-minute debrief and next steps
  5. 05Handoff — your team leaves knowing exactly who owns what and what changes immediately
In practice

When it works

Before

No clarity on who owned what. Processes existed on paper but not in practice. Things fell through the cracks constantly and there was no clear authority to act when they did.

After

Clear ownership across every key process. People knew what they were accountable for and had the authority to act on it. The business passed M&A due diligence at exit — in part because the ownership design was clean enough to hand over.

This is part of the work that shaped LEAD™ and EXAMINE™.

Questions about LEAD™

Before you start

A documented process tells people what to do. It does not tell them who is accountable for the outcome, what they are allowed to decide, or what to do when something goes wrong. Those gaps are where execution breaks down. LEAD™ adds the ownership layer the SOP is missing.

Usually one of three things: the outcome is not clear enough for them to know when they have succeeded, they do not have the authority to make the decisions the process requires, or the handoffs with other roles are undefined so they get stuck. LEAD™ identifies which of those is true and fixes it specifically.

That is worth checking before starting. LEAD™ works when the process is sound and the person is capable but the ownership design is the problem. If the issue is skill or capacity, a different starting point may be more relevant. We will confirm this on the discovery call.

Updating the SOP describes the work more accurately. LEAD™ changes who owns the outcome, what they are allowed to decide, and what happens when things go off track. Those are structural changes, not documentation changes. Most failing processes have clear enough instructions — what they lack is clear enough authority.
